experience

Every wedding tells a story.  Let us tell yours.

If you're here, chances are you're looking for more than beautiful photographs.

You're looking for images that still feel like you decades from now.  Drawing from documentary storytelling and editorial portraiture, we create photographs that feel contemporary today and timeless for generations to come.  At Iris & Grain, we aim to make photos that not only pop, but also endure.  That's what inspires us every time we pick up a camera.

let's discover yours

every wedding deserves its own approach

Every wedding has its own rhythm.

Some are loud. Some are quiet. Some revolve around the dance floor. Others around long conversations over dinner.

Before we think about photographs, we want to understand what matters most to you. That becomes the foundation for everything that follows.

It starts with understanding you.

01

Not because they're lucky, but because there's room for them to happen.

A thoughtful timeline, unhurried transitions, and the confidence to let moments unfold naturally create the space where the unexpected has a chance to reveal itself.

Making space for the unexpected.

02

Once the day begins, our goal is simple: to let you experience it.

Most moments are photographed exactly as they happen, while a select few are gently guided when the story calls for it. We move between documentary, editorial, and traditional approaches naturally, always choosing the one that best serves the moment rather than the other way around.

The Day Unfolds

03

By the time you receive your gallery, you're no longer planning a wedding. You're building a life together.

The photographs become a reminder of where it all began, preserving the people, the emotions, and the moments that marked the start of your next chapter.

The first chapter

04

This is where portraits and candid moments are approached with a little more style. Through thoughtful composition, creative use of light, and carefully considered colour in post-production, the images feel polished, cinematic, and beautifully composed.

Fashion / magazine

Some of the best moments happen when no one knows the camera is there. We keep an eye out for the laughter, tears, glances, details, and beautifully unscripted moments that tell the real story of your day.

Documentary

As contemporary as we like to be in our approach, we also recognize that there are certain timeless must-haves: the big group shot outside the venue, the couple with their parents, and those meaningful combinations you’ll want to look back on for years to come.

Traditional

What is "editorial style"?

I'm sure you've heard the term editorial style, but what does it actually mean in the context of wedding photography?  Let me break it down for you.

Editorial style exists at the mid-point of three different approaches to wedding photography:  traditional, documentary, and fashion/magazine.

I will take a photo of the ceremony venue before guests arrive. This will capture the ambiance and decor of the space and will provide a beautiful backdrop for your ceremony photos. I will be sure to capture photos of the bride and her escort walking down the aisle. This is an important moment and should be captured from multiple angles. Capturing he groom's face as he sees the bride walking down the aisle is sooo important. This is often an emotional moment that the couple will want to remember forever. Remember to work closely with your photographer to ensure that you get all the shots you want and that the photos capture the unique personality of your wedding ceremony.

Wedding ceremony photos are an important part of any wedding photography shoot.
